OtterHalf

How did OtterHalf decide which gender options to include?

For how we support trans and gender-diverse members, see Supporting Gender Diversity in the OtterHalf Community.

Why these options?

We want OtterHalf to be a place where everyone can represent themselves honestly. Many dating apps only offer “Man” and “Woman,” which doesn’t work for non-binary and other gender-diverse people. So we offer three main categories—Man, Woman, and Non-binary—plus more specific options under each so you can choose the label that fits you.

What options are there?

Under Man you’ll find options like Cis Man, Trans Man, Transmasculine, and others. Under Woman, options like Cis Woman, Trans Woman, Transfeminine, and others. Under Non-binary you’ll find options like Agender, Genderqueer, Gender Fluid, and others. The full list is in the app when you edit your gender.

We add and refine options based on feedback from our community so the list stays relevant and respectful.

Why a “Non-binary” category?

Many people don’t identify strictly as a man or a woman. “Non-binary” is a common umbrella term for identities outside that binary. We use it as a category so you can pick it and then choose a more specific identity (e.g. Genderqueer, Agender) if you want.

How does OtterHalf use my gender?

Your gender helps us show your profile to people who are looking for someone like you, and to show you people you’re interested in. You can change it anytime in the app.

How do I add or change my gender?

Tap the Profile tab, then your profile photo to open the edit screen. Scroll to The Basics and tap Gender. You’ll see options grouped under Man, Woman, and Non-binary—pick the one that best represents you. For step-by-step help, see How do I edit my profile? and Gender on profiles.

Can I choose who I see by gender?

Yes. In your discovery preferences you can select which genders you’d like to see—e.g. men, women, and/or non-binary people—so your feed matches who you’re open to connecting with.

Do I have to select a gender?

Choosing a gender is required so we can show your profile to the right people and respect others’ preferences. You can still control how your profile is shown in your settings.
