Selfie Verification

Selfie Verification is an optional feature that adds a trust signal to your profile. It checks whether your live selfie flow matches your first profile photo.

How it works

  • Start verification from your profile settings.
  • Complete the live selfie prompts in the verification flow.
  • We compare that flow to your first profile photo and update your verification status.

Photo requirements

Your first profile photo must be a clear face photo. If your first photo does not meet requirements, verification may not start.

For full guidance, see Photo guidelines.

When verification can reset

Verification is tied to the photo used during verification.

  • If that verified photo is removed or replaced, your verification can be removed and you may need to verify again.
  • Reordering photos alone does not remove verification as long as the verified photo is still on your profile.

Limits and review states

To protect reliability and prevent abuse, repeated verification starts are rate-limited.

If a verification is currently in review, you may not be able to start a new one until that review is resolved.

Photos added, replaced, or removed after verification may affect your verified status and may require re-verification.

What this does and does not mean

A verified badge is a trust signal based on our selfie verification process. It is not a criminal background check and does not guarantee identity, intent, or safety. Always use your best judgment when interacting with others.

Data retention

  • OtterHalf stores verification outcome and session metadata (such as status, timestamps, and anchor photo references).
  • OtterHalf does not store raw selfie videos or face geometry templates in its own verification records.
  • Didit provider-side selfie verification data is currently retained for up to six months.

Where required by law, selfie verification uses your consent to process biometric and face geometry data.

For security reasons, support cannot manually verify photos on your behalf.
