Consequences for False Reporting

At OtterHalf, authenticity, integrity, and safety are at the heart of our community. Reporting is an important tool to help us maintain a respectful space for everyone—but it must be used responsibly.

Responsible Reporting

We trust our users to report behavior that violates our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

However, intentionally submitting false reports is strictly prohibited and may result in permanent account suspension.

  • Reports are confidential – Your identity will never be shared with the person you report.
  • Every report is taken seriously – We carefully review reports to determine appropriate action.
  • False reports have consequences – Misusing the report function can result in warnings or a permanent ban.

According to our Terms of Service, OtterHalf members are prohibited from "harassing, bullying, stalking, intimidating, assaulting, defaming, harming, or otherwise mistreating any person." If you simply aren't interested in someone's profile, use the Remove option instead of reporting them.

What Happens If a Report Is False?

Submitting a report for inaccurate or discriminatory reasons can lead to account action, including:

  • Warnings or bans for false, baseless, or retaliatory reports.
  • Immediate bans for reports made based on someone's gender identity, race, religion, disability, or other protected traits. Read more in our Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech article.

Submitting false reports diverts valuable resources and attention from our Trust & Safety team, preventing them from helping members who genuinely need assistance.
